Yun Shin, Wansoo Kim and Paul Collins

Opening Reception Saturday May 10, 6-9pm

Elephant Gallery is proud to present UPKEEP, recent work by Yun Shin, Wansoo Kim and Paul Collins. UPKEEP examines the tension between wear and care, exploring the productive resistance of maintenance in the face of disorder. This presentation comprises drawing, painting, and sculpture that utilize candid observation and humor to meditate on the elusive promise of strength through routine.

Yun Shin Statement and bio:

The title Collecting the Everyday suggests a subtle role reversal, where I, as the parent, experience childlike wonder while observing my son’s creations. I explore the impact of my little boy on my daily life—how he shapes my routines and evokes a range of emotions. I blend familiar and experimental approaches, using documentation and close observation to better understand how he engages with the world.

Yun Shin is an artist and educator based in Clarksville, TN. She holds an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.F.A. in Craft/Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her recent solo exhibitions include "Record-Keeping" at The New Gallery, Department of Art+Design, Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, TN (2025), and "Studying & Transcribing" at the NAC Fred Simon Gallery, Omaha, NE (2024).

Wansoo Kim statement and bio:

This latest body of work investigates the concept of maintenance through a form of domestic labor and exercise. I questions the physical and societal expectations that require both flexibility and stiffness. Table Monsters, the other body of work in the show, explores maintenance and support within figurative and monstrous forms.

Wansoo Kim earned his MFA from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and his BFA from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Recent exhibitions include The Nashville International Airport (Nashville, TN; 2025), the American Museum of Ceramic Art (Pomona, CA; 2024), and the Jane Hartsook Gallery at Greenwich House (New York, NY; 2022).

Paul Collins statement and bio:

This is a series of paintings about the experience as the parent of a child going through chemotherapy. The paintings collage and recompose iphone pictures that capture the spirit and remarkable humor of my daughter, and the resilience of family bonds during a dark and challenging time.

Paul Collins is an artist and teacher in Nashville, TN. Paul has an MFA from Yale University and has been a resident at Skowhegan, the MacDowell Colony, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Hambidge Center and the Vermont Studio Center.
